Adrianna

Adrianna Hall was born with four holes in her heart and short arms with missing fingers. Recently she was finally diagnosed as having Holt-Oram Syndrome. This is a genetic disorder that affects the heart and hands, however, Adrianna’s case is more severe than usual in that it has affected both arms and hands.

She has spent a lot of time in hospital; one hole has been repaired and the largest of the three left appears to be closing up slowly so the operation she will need to fully repair her heart could be less intrusive than was first thought. The main aim for now is to get the heart fixed and then to attend to her arms. Dr McCarthy at Alder hey is the plastic surgeon the family sees and is hoping to lengthen Adrianna’s right arm over time. The left is a little more problematic and may have to be amputated in order to fit a full prosthetic arm.

Adrianna’s mum looks after her and her two older brother while attending evening classes with the aim of going into nursing in a few years time. Her father has returned to university to retrain after a back injury prevented him continuing to work in the building industry.

This website has been created to let people know about this rare syndrome (it affects around 1 in 100,000 with only a few cases being known in the UK) and to also enable people to help Adrianna in any way they can – through donations of money, time or expertise.
